Post-nominal letters

The IMI provides a range of membership grades that demonstrates an individual’s qualifications and experience in the motor industry.  As a member you have the opportunity to display your post-nominal letters relevant to your grade of membership after your name.

Terms of use

1. The member identity may only be used by current IMI members who have paid their fees. You may contact the IMI for an updated version on renewal of your membership.
2. The member identity is the only example of the IMI corporate logo that you are permitted to use and must not be modified in any way.
3. The IMI welcomes links from other websites to www.theimi.org.uk providing that the following guidelines are adhered to:-
   • The use of the words IMI, The Institute of the Motor Industry, the address www.theimi.org.uk and the member identity should be confined to providing link information only.
   • Website copy must not imply or suggest a relationship, product or service endorsement, or agreement with the IMI, where one does not exist.
   • Any other use of the above will be deemed unauthorised, unless it has been approved by the Institute of the Motor Industry.
   • The IMI corporate identity is registered and protected by trademark law.

Engineering Awards

As a member of the IMI, you may also be eligible to gain two additional automotive specific engineering awards, which recognise technical qualifications and experience.

On achievement of either of the above awards, you will enjoy further recognition by receiving a certificate and adding either the letters CAE or AAE before your membership grade post nominals.

How to apply

Simply complete the application form available in the downloads section (to the right of this page).

Please send copies of your qualifications with your application form.

Post your application to The IMI, Fanshaws, Brickendon, Hertford SG13 8PQ or alternatively, email us at imimembers@theimi.org.uk

On receipt of the above, your application will then be reviewed by the Professional Standards and Grading Committee.  Your application will be processed and notification dispatched to you within 10 working days of receiving your application (28 days for overseas members).
