Being a registered professional shows your customers and your colleagues that you are continually keeping up to date with learning, new skills and working practices
The Professional Register is an industry-wide database that lists professional individuals working in the automotive industry. It is a representation of members who have taken a further step to be recognised for maintaining their knowledge, skills, competency and commitment by carrying out 90 credits of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) within a three year cycle (the equivalent of only approximately four days per year). Members who hold Licentiate (LIMI) to Fellow (FIMI) grade are placed on the Register. It is the place for consumers and customers to search for and find professional and ethical individuals.
The Employer Recognition Scheme has been developed by the IMI in response to the growing demand for an independent sign of quality and professionalism in the industry. The Scheme is a mechanism for recognising employers and businesses that have a minimum of 50% of their staff on the Professional Register. It demonstrates that a business is committed to keeping the skills and knowledge of its employees up to date, and that they continue to work to an ethical code of conduct. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is the practice of maintaining and developing the skills and knowledge required in your job role. CPD covers the whole spectrum of automotive learning. Learning on the job, reading a relevant article, or simply attending a conference all count towards CPD, it's not just the formal training you attend.
The IMI can support you in keeping current and up to date by offering a range of automotive-specific CPD courses which have been specifically designed to assist you in maintaining your professional competence. Registered professionals can also take advantage of discounts of up to 25% off our CPD courses.
