IMI hires DVSA Education Chief to push quality MOT Training and Assessment

Since April 2016 MOT Testers and Managers have been required to take an annual assessment and 3 hours annual training to remain compliant. New testers and managers must complete a new qualification.

The IMI is the only awarding body offering the full suite of new MOT training and assessment (classes 1 and 2 Motorcycle, and 4 and 7 Light Vehicle) plus the Qualification and pre-qualifying assessment in the form of IMI Accreditation.

The IMI has signed agreements to roll out training and assessment to the MOT network with major franchised dealers and larger independent service business that employ some 20,000 MOT Testers and Managers already. But with the April 2017 deadline looming there are still large numbers of MOT Testers that are not compliant. DVSA reissued a notice of the requirements last week to remind businesses of their obligations and the pressure is building.

Fortunately IMI MOT training and assessment is available in 40 education centres across the UK and via an online learning platform for the convenience of businesses. The IMI will now promote its unique comprehensive offer and first class customer service across the rest of the MOT network with David Easton’s expert assistance.

David Easton has managed DVSA's MOT training operations for 20 years whilst ensuring technicians are delivering quality vehicle assessments. He also knows the challenges the MOT network face and is determined to help testers, managers and MOT businesses find the solutions they need. David will now be looking to bring training and assessments to the whole MOT testing network with the added benefit of an IMI stamp of approval.

David Easton, MOT training specialist, said:

"I think this is a really exciting time for the MOT industry. For the first time since the MOT Scheme began back in the 1960's MOT Testers and Managers now have their own set of National Occupational Standards and proper regulated qualifications.

"MOT Testers and Managers deserve to be recognised for the professionals that they are, and there is a real opportunity here for the IMI, which is already a big brand with a big reputation within the industry, to showcase its MOT products and approved centres.

"The IMI are absolutely committed to ensuring that their centres aren't just the best but are recognised industry-wide as being centres of excellence. The first and only choice when it comes to MOT Training."

Steve Scofield, Head of Business Development at the IMI, said:

"Having David join our team demonstrates the IMI's ongoing commitment to providing the very best training to individuals working in the sector. It will ensure the IMI continue to provide quality and confidence to all of the testers and managers completing the new qualifications, in both the annual training and assessment.

"Over the coming months the addition of David's knowledge and expertise to our team will ensure that all of our centres get the support they need to deliver the very best MOT training to our customers and partners."
