Steve Nash, CEO at the IMI, issues post-election statement

“Today’s result demonstrates the true political divide across the UK. Following a turbulent campaign and now further uncertainty surrounding the future of the UK’s government, it has been undoubtedly one of the most inconclusive election results for a very long time.

“In particular, the motor industry – and motorists - face many unanswered questions, including the ongoing diesel debate, fuel duty, road tax.  The government also faces added pressure to negotiate a Brexit deal that will affect the automotive sector – and all those who work in it.  This includes the serious impact that existing skills shortages are having on the industry.

“It is now very clear that the votes of young people had a significant effect on the outcome of this election, so it is imperative that the government pay greater attention to their desires and aspirations – after all it is their abilities, skills and attitudes that will shape the future of the country.”
