Philip Rutt and Kevin Ives from Pico provided the Birmingham M.A. with a demonstration of all the equipment on offer, but also demonstrated the wealth of knowledge they had both gained from years of hands-on engine testing and fault diagnosis.
The impressive PicoScope and the multifunction Pressure Transducer were the main features of the evening. The PicoScope is a very handy unit that keeps costs down to end users by utilising the customers own laptop to display and save faults, rather than utilising a separate oscilloscope most of which are mains operated and not much good for diagnosing dynamic or intermittent faults anyway. This simplifies the whole business of fault diagnosis, especially with the vast array of well thought out test leads and breakout parts they have amassed throughout the years. They also supported their presentation with a large amount of failed components for members to examine.
Pico must be unique in that they also support all their equipment with free lifetime software upgrades in 19 different languages. A very professional and well thought out presentation.
