Twenty-nine members and guests enjoyed a fabulous day at the Jaguar Plant in Castle Bromwich.
Following a product information video and a Health and Safety briefing, we were split into three groups and taken by minibus to the tour starting point. From there we witnessed the XJ shell being built from the floor pan sections upward, through to the body shell finishing point.
We were then shown the engine and transmission line, before seeing the final assembly of the XF.
Like many production lines, we were all totally amazed by the synchronisation process that allowed the correct engine and transmission, wheels, tyres, interior, doors and colour coded bumpers to arrive at their individual assembly points at the same time as the car.
Transportation to and from Birmingham was by midi coach and although it was a fairly long day, everyone had a fabulous time.
Our thanks go to Julie Bartholomew and the team of enthusiastic and knowledgeable guides who took us around the Castle Bromwich plant.
