UK contractors Carillion and Kier are working as a joint venture to deliver Cheshire's first smart motorway on behalf of the Highways England.

The project team, based out of offices in Sandbach, are carrying out improvements to the M6 between J16 at Crewe to J19 at Knutsford.

Smart motorways use innovative technology and variable speed limits to actively control traffic flows and improve overall journey time and experience. The hard shoulder is used as an extra lane during busy times.

Andy Latham is an experienced vehicle engineer who has worked in the sector since leaving school. He runs RecAuto Ltd, part of the Autofinity Group of Companies, and is the MD of Salvage Wire.

Andy will be looking in detail at why so many electric and hybrid vehicles are being designed, built and sold, and the differences between them all. He will cover all the stages of handling an electric hybrid vehicle in the retail motor industry and will give a glimpse into the future of battery technology, fuel cells, hydrogen power and more.
