HGV Technician / DAFAid Technician

About the Role

Contek Recruitment Solutions are collaborating with our client to recruit a skilled and motivated HGV Technician (with optional DAFAid Roadside/On-Call duties) to join their depot in the DE13 area (Burton upon Trent). Compensation & Rewards

  • Standard HGV Technician: £40,000 – £45,000 basic salary (plus potential performance bonuses discussed at interview).
  • DAFAid HGV Technician (On-Call / Roadside): OTE up to £70,000.
  • HGV License Top-Up: Earn an automatic 50p/hour salary increase upon gaining your HGV driving license (if trained through the company).
  • Sales Lead Incentives: £500 reward for referring sales leads.

Working Hours & Shift Patterns

  • Contracted Hours: 35 to 45 hours per week.

Shift Patterns (Rotating Rota):

  • Week 1: Monday to Friday, 06:00 – 14:30
  • Week 2: Monday to Friday, 13:00 – 21:30 (or afternoon/night variations based on depot rotas)

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and safety inspections on commercial vehicles (primarily DAF heavy goods vehicles, trailers, and vans).
  • Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults using official DAF diagnostic technology.
  • Perform MOT preparation, repairs, and compliance inspections in line with DVSA standards.
  • Complete job cards, service sheets, and compliance documentation accurately.
  • (DAFAid candidates) Respond to emergency roadside breakdowns, vehicle recoveries, and on-call repairs within the designated coverage zone.

Key Requirements

  • Qualification: NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.
  • Experience: Proven experience working on HGVs / Commercial Vehicles within a dealership, fleet workshop, or independent garage setting.
  • License: Full UK Driving License (Class 1 / Class 2 HGV license is highly advantageous; training supported).
  • Skills: Strong diagnostic capabilities, high attention to detail, and a focus on first-time fix rates and safety compliance.
