We have exclusively partnered with a leading specialist in advanced, unique aerospace systems in their search for an OEM Sales Engineer (Technical Business Development Engineer) based in Consett. Are you looking for an opportunity to drive new and existing aerospace OEM business by combining technical credibility with disciplined commercial activity? Do you have an engineering background and experience supporting the full sales lifecycle from pipeline management and forecasting through to proposals, customer engagement and trade shows? If so, we want to hear from you!
What’s on Offer?
- Competitive salary circa £48,000 – £55,000
- 5 days on-site with international travel (typically twice a quarter)
- Opportunity to work on a highly technical, unique product with no direct competitor equivalent
Your Role as an OEM Sales Engineer:
- Act as the primary day-to-day point of contact for new and existing aerospace OEM enquiries, coordinating meetings, site visits, demonstrations and follow-ups.
- Maintain the OEM pipeline and A-B List, ensuring status, value, probability, timing, next actions and ownership remain current and evidence-based.
- Prepare and maintain reliable OEM revenue forecasts to support Finance, budgeting and quarterly reforecasting.
- Develop and maintain account and opportunity plans for priority customers, identifying stakeholders, decision points, risks and required actions.
- Prepare first drafts of proposals, quotations and responses to RFIs/RFPs/RFQs, coordinating technical, commercial and contractual inputs across the business.
- Administer NDAs and early-stage opportunity documentation through internal review and approval processes.
- Support CRM management with Marketing and represent the company at trade shows, exhibitions and customer events (often international).
- Analyse pipeline coverage and opportunity progression, highlighting gaps and supporting campaign planning with the VP of Engineering and Marketing.
What We’re Looking For:
- Engineering background (degree not essential if you have solid relevant experience) so you can quickly understand the technology and speak credibly with aerospace OEM customers and internal engineers.
- Customer-facing experience in a technical, commercial, proposals, applications or business-development role.
- Proven experience managing or supporting a structured opportunity pipeline and producing reliable sales/revenue forecasts.
- Strong written communication skills with close attention to detail (essential for proposals and RFI responses).
- Highly organised, responsive and disciplined in follow-through, with a confident, professional and commercially minded approach.
- Comfortable engaging across the full sales lifecycle, including trade shows and customer meetings (not a pure desk-based role).
- Willingness to work 5 days on-site in Consett and travel internationally approximately twice a quarter.
Preferred but not essential: aerospace OEM or other regulated/safety-critical industry experience (medical devices, technical product manufacturing, etc.); experience preparing proposals or account plans; trade-show experience.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a company developing unique, highly technical aerospace systems, where you will support the VP of Engineering in growing OEM business and play a key role in progressing strategically important opportunities from early enquiry through to successful delivery.
